No Cottonwood 24-Hour Release Feed
Cottonwood County publishes no official rolling 24-hour view of jail releases. The official-channel review covered the Sheriff navigation, jail pages, roster, forms, frequently asked questions, and linked services. It found a current-roster PDF, not a same-day release log. It also found no county-linked Sheriff app or social stream that fills this gap. That absence should lead the search process. It would be inaccurate to label the live PDF “today’s releases” or to build a list by assuming each missing name was released.
The Cottonwood County jail roster landing page links to a PDF generated at 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Central. It shows who appears in county custody at a snapshot time. An event after the morning file may not appear until evening, and one after the evening file may wait until the next morning. The county gives no additional update-lag promise and no period during which a former row stays online.
Check Cottonwood County Releases Today
For a same-day question, start with the timestamp on the current PDF and then move to sources that record a custody change. The Sheriff’s record is the strongest local proof because Minnesota law makes the actual date, time, and legal basis of an adult release public. Transfer facts are also public, including the receiving agency. VINE can give a faster signal, while Minnesota Court Records Online can explain a bond order, dismissal, sentence, or other court action. Court action and physical release are separate events.
- Open the current Cottonwood roster and note whether the named person appears, along with the PDF generation time, booking date, charges, and “Held For” entry.
- Search Minnesota VINE by full or partial name or facility ID. Read “release,” “bond release,” “court-ordered release,” “transfer,” and “record purge” as different events.
- Call Cottonwood County Jail at 507-831-1375 and ask whether the person remains in county custody. Ask separately whether any departure was a community release or transfer.
- Request the Sheriff’s actual release date, release time, and legal basis. If the person transferred, request the transfer time, basis, and receiving agency instead.
- Use the court case to understand the legal context, then reconcile it with the Sheriff event rather than treating the court order as proof that processing finished.
When the question concerns one known person rather than everyone who left today, the complete Cottonwood County released-inmate search path also covers state, federal, immigration, and older-record routes. Staying within the right custody system prevents a county roster change from being mistaken for release from every form of custody.
Note: Ask “currently held?” and “actual release or transfer facts?” as separate questions because each seeks a different kind of answer.
Cottonwood 24-Hour Roster Fields
The county PDF has six useful columns, but none records a completed release. “Projected Release” is prospective, meaning it points forward to a possible date. Bail information also does not prove that funds were posted, other holds cleared, or jail processing ended. Read each field within its narrow purpose.
| Current-roster field | What it can show | What it cannot confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Inmate | Name used on the snapshot | Unique identity or release |
| Charges | Listed holding matters | Final disposition |
| Held For | Custodial agency context | Destination after departure |
| Booking Date | Start of the listed booking | Actual release date |
| Projected Release | Possible future date when populated | Completed release |
| Bail Amount | Listed bail information | Payment or physical release |
A true Cottonwood County release record should identify the booking or person, actual date and time, legal basis, and releasing facility. A transfer record should add the receiving agency. The live roster has no actual release time, release reason, receiving facility, explicit released status, or visible booking photo. Those omissions are why the PDF cannot satisfy the intent behind a 24-hour release list.
Why Cottonwood Release Names Vanish
Cottonwood’s static PDF design is a distinctive data quirk. The same link is overwritten twice each day rather than preserving an interactive booking history. A person can be present on one snapshot and absent on the next, but the public link does not let a reader reconstruct earlier copies. No official post-release retention period is published. That makes a vanished row a change clue, not a release entry.
The official roster page shows the cadence and disclaimer that define this limit. The linked Sheriff’s current-roster source supplies the page captured in the image.
The captured source reinforces that the county offers a current PDF with scheduled generation times, not a historical feed of released people. Save the source time in notes, then confirm the actual event through VINE and Sheriff records.
A name can also vanish because custody moved. If Cottonwood transferred the person to another county jail, the Minnesota Department of Corrections, a federal custodian, or immigration custody, continue with the receiving system named in the transfer record. “No longer on Cottonwood’s roster” and “in the community” do not mean the same thing.
Request Cottonwood Same-Day Release Data
The Sheriff’s Office is the source for the actual county custody transaction. Under Minnesota Statutes §13.82, subdivision 2, adult release date, time, and legal basis are public at the originating law-enforcement agency. The same provision covers transfer date, time, legal basis, and recipient. A narrow request for these existing fields is more precise than asking the county to create a new 24-hour report that it does not maintain.
Contact Sheriff records by email at Pamela.Hogan@co.cottonwood.mn.us, by phone at 507-831-1375, by fax at 507-831-1957, or by mail or in person at 902 5th Avenue, Windom, MN 56101. Published office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Dispatch is available around the clock, but that does not mean records staff process data requests at all hours.
- Release
- The local custody basis ended and the person left that custodian, though supervision or another case may continue.
- Transfer
- Custody moved to a named receiving agency. It is not release to the community.
- Record purge
- An operational database event. It does not state the legal reason custody ended.
- Projected release
- A possible future date, not proof that a release took place.
For a same-day range, give exact start and end times and ask whether existing release-event data can be supplied. For one person, include full name, date of birth or booking number, and approximate booking date. Request advance notice of cost and electronic delivery. Minnesota law does not require an office to create a new compilation if no such list exists.
Cottonwood Release Checks Beyond Roster
Minnesota VINE is the county-endorsed online status-change channel for the Cottonwood County Jail. County jails typically send updates every 15 or 30 minutes, though that timing is not guaranteed for each event. Search at VINELink or call 1-877-664-8463. General release, court-ordered release, bond release, unsupervised custody, transfer, record purge, escape, and death have distinct meanings. A transfer alert tells the reader to identify and search the receiving custodian.
State-prison cases use different tools. The MNDOC Public Viewer covers adults committed to the Commissioner who are incarcerated or remain under DOC jurisdiction in the community. “Under Supervision” can confirm departure from prison into DOC supervision. It does not establish an earlier Cottonwood County release. People finally discharged from DOC may fall outside the viewer, so DOC records and the court case become the historical fallback. Minnesota HAVEN, not VINE, handles state-prison notifications.
Minnesota Court Records Online can show a bond order, dismissal, sentence, credit for time served, prison commitment, probation, or warrant. It explains legal context, not the exact physical release time. Pending cases also may not be found through remote defendant-name search before conviction. Case number, citation number, or courthouse access may be needed.
Note: Use VINE for a prompt signal, Sheriff data for the custody event, and the court record for the legal case context.
Cottonwood Release Versus Custody
A person listed on the newest Cottonwood PDF is shown in county custody as of that snapshot, subject to the county’s accuracy and identity warnings. Someone absent from it has not thereby been proved released. The actual record may show a community release, transfer, data correction, or another event. A future projected date means the person was still shown as held when that roster was generated.
| Question | Best source | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Held by Cottonwood now? | Current PDF and jail confirmation | County custody at the stated time |
| Left the jail today? | Sheriff release or transfer data | Actual event, time, and legal basis |
| Why did the case change? | MCRO and court order | Judicial context, not processing time |
| Moved to state custody? | Transfer recipient and MNDOC | Continued custody or later supervision |
For a broader recent window, Cottonwood’s 72-Hour Releases process explains how to request exact weekend or three-day event data. Neither time window is reconstructed from roster disappearance. Both depend on the originating Sheriff record for a sound release statement.
